Useful Info For Your Stay
CLIMATE
Long, bright, sunny days are expected at this time of year in Toronto. Average daytime high temperatures are in the low 20°s C (low 70°’s F), while evening temperatures can be as low as 10° C (50° F). A sports jacket or light coat is recommended. CREDIT CARDS
Most American credit cards are honored in Canada. Most US ATM (banking machine) cards can be used in Canada. Money will be disbursed in Canadian funds and converted to US dollars on your bank statement.
CURRENCY
Canadian currency is in dollars and cents. Please check the current exchange rate before travelling. Banks are generally closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Several options are available for currency exchange and bank machines are available at Lester B. Pearson Airport and at the hotel. US currency is widely accepted. See www.bankofcanada.ca for current rates of exchange.
DRIVER’S LICENCES
American State driver’s licences are valid in Canada for varying periods of time, as legislated by individual provinces and territories. The 1949 International Driving Permit is also valid but it must be accompanied at all times by the visitor’s State or National driver’s licence.
ELECTRICAL CURRENT
110 Volts, 60 cycles AC (same as the U.S.).
INSURANCE
Participants are strongly urged to take out personal, medical and travel insurance prior to travelling.
LANGUAGE
English is the dominant language used in Toronto.

SMOKING POLICY
Smoking is prohibited in all conference meeting rooms.
TIME ZONES
Toronto is on Eastern Time (5 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time).
Canada has six time zones:

TIPPING
Tips or service charges are not usually added to a bill in Canada. In general, a tip of up to 15% of the sub-total (before taxes) is given. This applies to waiters, waitresses, barbers, hairdressers, taxi drivers, etc.

VISAS
Visitors require a valid passport, and many require a visitor’s visa. For information on visa requirements and exemptions please check with the nearest Canadian Embassy, High Commission or Consulate.
